A Modular Approach to Self-Help, Self-Improvement and Personal Development
The self-help marketplace is positively heaving with gurus and self-proclaimed miracle workers. Their products, they tell you with utter conviction and certainty, will change your life forever, invite untold wealth and create an abundance of happiness.
When these products and the gurus who promote them fail to live up to the expectations they create, the consumer can't help but consider the product to have been a failure. If someone claims without a hint of self-doubt that their product is going to utterly change your life in just seven days, then that is precisely what you expect. When (as, unfortunately but inevitably, is often the case) the product fails to deliver on its considerable promise, you are left feeling disappointment and, quite possibly, as if you have been scammed. Consequently, these gurus and self-proclaimed miracle workers are contributing to the creation of a nation of cynics.
But it doesn't have to be that way.
If you take a modular approach to self-help, self-improvement and personal development, you can, in effect, create your own unique and bespoke self-improvement system, one that works perfectly for you and has a genuine impact upon the quality of your life.
Here's how it works. Imagine there's a self-help book entitled "Create Limitless Riches in Just 5 Days" (and, for all I know, there is just such a book out there!). It recommends various techniques and practical hints, one of which is visualising what you want in order to 'attract' it. After 5 days of tireless practice, the book has failed to deliver upon its promise. You throw the useless waste of paper in the trash and hope it will be recycled into something that's actually going to contribute to the well-being of the human race.
But wait. The visualisation techniques were good. I mean, they didn't bring infinite riches in under a week but they did help you clarify your goals and focus upon what you really wanted in life. Well, there's the first module of The [insert your name here] Personal Development System.
Another self-help book may, likewise, fail to achieve its gargantuan ambition, but it has a great chapter on how your personal circumstances are largely as a result of your thought processes, with easy-to-follow exercises helping you analyse and alter those thought processes. Module two of The [insert your name here] Personal Development System.
Another book may fail to make you irresistible to the opposite sex in just one hour, but its simple self-hypnosis techniques made you feel relaxed, confident and attractive. Module three.
And so on, ignoring the hyperbole and accepting the overall failure of these products, but not allowing yourself to become cynical, not allowing yourself to be beaten. Take the bits that work for you, the bits you're comfortable with. Put them all together and, after a little trial and error, you'll find yourself with a system that fits you like a glove, that plays to your strengths (augmenting them) and identifies your weaknesses (eradicating them).
Yes, it requires a little patience, a time-commitment longer than the oft-touted 7 days. But the end result is worthwhile and, more importantly, will be yours and yours alone. This will be your system, your achievement, your success.
Who knows, maybe one day, you'll be the guru helping others change their lives just like you changed yours.
Good luck.
