Know Thy Self First When Setting Lofty Goals
Everyone that truly wants to make a dent in the world and leave their mark must set lofty goals first, but they must also achieve them in order to advance to the next step. This is why you must know self when putting pen to paper and setting these goals.
You know you, like no other. You know your strengths and weaknesses and the challenges you face. You know what is critical to you in your life and what you need to do to feel as if you have achieved.
Setting goals against the competition is one strategy, most folks take this into consideration, but you must also know what you can do, what you are capable of before diving in and setting the pace that high to catch and surpass your competition. Sun Tzu's advice to know thy self and know your opponent is good advice.
Indeed, knowing yourself and your capabilities is the first step and paramount in goal setting. It's okay to set goals that challenge your previous best efforts, that's how you get better, but setting goals too high will consume you and cause you anguish when you fail.
You must know both your strengths and weakness when planning and setting goals. Otherwise you are liable to let everyone down, including the most important person in this whole process; YOU.
It is okay to admit your weaknesses or limits everyone has them, except me (just kidding), but it is that sort of attitude that could possibly prevent you from reaching goals unrealistically set. So, I'd like you to think about this next time you sit down to pound out a plan or go into goal setting mode.
